Calvary Bible Church (CBC) Idimu, Lagos, recently embarked on rehabilitation of Anjorin road in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos state. The church overseer, Dr. Olumide Emmanuel, in the below interview with Christian Benefits, speaks on the multi-million naira road rehabilitation project and other Church Social Responsibility (CSR) activities of the church aimed at impacting its community.

Sir, what informed the Anjorin road rehabilitation by Calvary Bible Church?
As a kingdom church we are committed to ensuring we do all we can to make our community what it should be, with a view at making our environment comfortable for both our church members and the residents of our church community. The Anjorin road rehabilitation project has been on our church list of CSR projects for awhile but the project could not be executed until now due to funding issues.

Tell us the state of the road before the church embarked on its rehabilitation
The state of the road was deplorable before CBC embarked on its rehabilitation. It was so bad that our church members and other users of the road often suffered the ordeal of passing the other street in order to prevent their vehicles from damage. We are glad that Calvary Bible Church has eventually rehabilitated the deplorable Anjorin road.

Were there previous attempts or efforts by residents or the local government of the area to rehabilitate the road before CBC embarked on the project?
The residents had tried what they could to work on the road. If you observe you will notice that the road is in a new area with much works to be done that area. I am not aware of any effort by the government to work on the road. All our previous discussions with the government over the time in respect of the road have not produced the expected results. We are however glad that the sacrifices of members of Calvary Bible Church have made the road rehabilitation a possibility.

What is the stretch of that Anjorin road being rehabilitated by Calvary Bible Church?
The road is less than one kilometer

What is the cost of the rehabilitation of the road?
The road rehabilitation has cost Calvary Bible Church a couple of millions. I will not be specific on the cost of the rehabilitation since it’s still a work in progress.

Is the rehabilitation project solely funded by Calvary Bible Church or in partnership with the street residents of the local government of the area?
The project is 100% funded by Calvary Bible Church

Who are the contractors handling the project

The project is being handled by the church building committee with accredited in-house contractors?

What are the socio-economic and other benefits that the road will offer or provide after its rehabilitation is completed?
It is an open secret that after its completion the road will reduce travel time, make trips comfortable and safe the vehicles of motorists from avoidable damages etc.

Apart from the Anjorin road rehabilitation, what are previous CSR projects that Calvary Bible Church has executed in its community and beyond?
The Church Social Responsibility (CSR) activities of Calvary Bible Church have been one of the uniqueness of the church in her community since her inception. The list of the CSR projects of the church is really long. Some of them include CBC toilet construction at Idimu Police Station, CBC borne hole construction in a couple of streets around our community, CBS construction of street poles and street light at some streets in our community, CBC Council bus stop roundabout adoption and maintenance, CBC regular welfare package to the needy, CBC regular empowerment/skill acquisition programmes and CBC weekly feeding of the hungry for the past 12 years among other life impacting and transforming CSR projects.

Lastly, what is the drive behind the Church Social Responsibility (CSR) activities of Calvary Bible Church?
We are a kingdom church. That means we are to be the salt and the light in our world. That is the drive behind all we do at Calvary Bible Church; manifesting the kingdom of God.
