The Holy Spirit- Pt 2: The Spirit of Revelation

MOMENT OF WORD WONDERS with Dr. Ayo Akerele (Canada)

“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God” (1 Corinthians 2:10)

Dr C.E French told the story of a 98-year-old woman—Sister Mary—who as an intercessor in America in the 1960s—revealed the secret of an impending bilateral deal between the US and Turkey. This was a top secret. The delegates from Turkey had arrived the White House for this deal. A night before the meeting in the White House, the Lord showed the exact details of the deal to Sister Mary in a night vision. She woke up and sent a message to the white house secretary, telling her that, should the US president sign that deal, America was going to enter into trouble. That same evening, FBI agents stormed sister Mary’s house. “How did you know about the deal the US president was to sign with Turkey”? You are an agent for the Turkish government. After subjecting her to hours of grueling interrogation, they discovered that the source of her information was beyond any natural means. Surprisingly, the US government changed their mind and bowed to the warnings of Sister Mary. This is what happens when we deepen our fellowship with the Holy Spirit and trigger the Spirit of Revelation into manifestation.

The Holy Spirit is the seal and stamp of our salvation. To be sure that you are genuinely saved, you must be approved by the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 12:3, the bible says, “no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit”.  In theology, the doctrine of the Holy Spirit is called, “pneumatology”. One of the primary roles of the Holy Spirit in the church is to reveal things beyond the physical eyes to the church—the body of Christ. This is one of the primary benefits that the new birth offers us that people from other faiths or religions have no access to. I am talking about direct access to revelations from God without any intermediary or third party, and without having to perform any ritual or sacrifice.

In the world, access to the supernatural or to the spirit realm often comes at significant costs. You must perform sacrifices, kill something, give something to Satan or his agents. It is a give and take industry. In Christ, Jesus has done it all by offering a single offering for you on the cross (Hebrews 10-14). All you need to do to have access to the voice of the Holy Spirit is to accept Jesus into your heart, walk with him in prayers and in the study of the word and he will reveal deep things to you.

But why is it critical to get revelations from the Holy Spirit? In answering this question, you need to understand how this world functions. We live in a wicked and evil world. Psalms 74:10 calls this world the habitation of cruelty. And Satan being the god of this world has only three tasks—-to kill, steal and destroy-John 10-10. Also, Satan and his agents who do these killings, stealing and destroying are not humans. They are spirits. They operate in secrecy. They don’t operate in the realm of the physical. How then would you be able to counter their programs and plans against you and your destiny if you can’t see what they are planning? In the military, it is called “intelligence”. Battles and won and lost on the basis of the intelligence you have or that you don’t have. That is why you need the Holy Spirit as a Child of God. Your education is too small to confront and overcome the devil. Your money is too small for the devil. There is nothing in this world you can have that can intimidate Satan. He is the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4).

The question now is this: What does the Holy Spirit reveals? If you look at 1 Corinthians 2:10, the bible says, “The Holy Spirit searches all things”. Note the words, “all things”. In other words, there is nothing anywhere that is hidden from His reach. The scope of His eyes covers every corner—because He is God the Spirit. How foolish then is it to descend so low by going to a witchdoctor to know things about your future or about an aspect of your life when the Holy Spirit who knows everything is in your heart? Who knows more—the Holy Spirit or Satan? But because believers are too lazy to discipline themselves to be guided by God, we often fall into the hands of false prophets who mislead us and sometimes do more damage to our destinies.

  1. The Holy Spirit knows the best partner for you in marriage
  2. The Holy Spirit knows the best business you should invest in
  3. The Holy Spirit knows the time and the day you must not travel
  4. The Holy Spirit knows the best city and the best country you should live in
  5. The Holy Spirit knows the best pastor and the best church you should be under
  6. The Holy Spirit knows the plans of God for your life
  7. The Holy Spirit knows when your times and seasons should change

But because of our laziness and sometimes carnality, we ignore the guidance of the Holy Spirit and at the end of the day, we fall into the traps of the devil in marriage, business and career.

What should you do to continue to receive revelations and guidance from the Holy Spirit?

  1. You must be deeply rooted in the word (Hebrews 4:12). The Word of the Lord is a discerner!!!
  2. You must be fervent in prayers, and where needed, in fasting—As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said—Acts 13:2
  3. You must be humble (the meek he will guide-Psalms 25-9)
  4. You must obey the written word
  5. You must have an honest heart
  6. You must walk in holiness and purity of heart

And we also need to be careful not to misrepresent the Holy Spirit. Sometimes, we are seeing revelations, but they are not coming from the Holy Spirit. The bible says, “Satan can manifest himself as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11-14). To be sure that the revelation you are seeing is from God, it must satisfy the following criteria.

  1. That revelation must not violate the written word-Isaiah 8-20—-To the Law and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them”
  2. That revelation must glorify Christ- John 16-15….If it glorifies you or a pastor or anything else, it is not from the Holy Spirit
  3. That revelation must convict men of sin and turn their hearts towards repentance-John 16:8
  4. That revelation must align with the fruits of the Holy Spirit-Galatians 5:21

In Revelations 4:1, Apostle John had a strange encounter with God. An angel was sent to him to bring him up to heaven for another dossier of revelation. To get this done, the angel said to John in verse 4, “come up hither and I will show you the thing that will take place after this”. For the discerning, the year 2022 is a critical year—one of the most defining seasons of the present decade. But for the casual, the year 2022 is just another addition to the numerical nomenclature of the Gregorian calendar. Perhaps, you walked into many of the past years in similarly casual manners. It is now time to go back to your prayer altar and connect to the Holy Spirit at a much higher level.

What are you doing? You are climbing higher to position yourself to see further and farther. You are using the binoculars of the Spirit to look into your year—to chart the right direction for yourself. Where you should invest or not invest will be shown to you from the binoculars of the Spirit. When to travel and not to travel will be shown to you from the binoculars of the Spirit. Who to marry or not to marry will be shown to you from the same binoculars. The binoculars of the Spirit cannot fail. The Holy Spirit cannot fail. You need him so desperately in 2022. We are talking about major spiritual warfare here that will shape the destinies of individuals, families and nations so remarkably. It is too deadly to try to see far in 2022 without the binoculars of the Spirit. I am talking about the eyes of the Lord that run to the ends of the earth. Stand on him as your foundation. Come up hither! Climb up in the spirit! Rise up in the spirit! Dust your bible and bury your head in the word. You spent only five minutes per week in prayers all through this year. You have to change your velocity. Re-ignite your prayer closet and for the next four days, start spending time in deep intercessions.
