Says Christians Must Be Fully Involved in Politics to Influence National Leadership

As conversations surrounding Nigeria’s 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, the Founder and Convener of the Pentecostal College of Bishops’ Movement (PECOBIM), Archbishop Prof. David Sunday Jesufemi, has made a bold prophetic declaration concerning the political future of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In this exclusive interview with Christian Benefits Magazine, the respected cleric shares how he received what he describes as a divine revelation regarding the 2027 presidential election. He also explains why he believes Christians must move beyond merely praying for the nation to actively participating in politics and governance. Excerpts:

Please introduce yourself to our readers and tell us about your background, ministry, and your role as the Founder/Convener of the Pentecostal College of Bishops’ Movement (PECOBIM).
My name is Archbishop Prof. David Sunday Jesufemi. I am the Founder of the Pentecostal College of Bishops’ Movement (PECOBIM). God gave me this vision because He has a special assignment for me in the bishopric—to bring order, especially among Pentecostal bishops and archbishops, and to promote unity, accountability, and sound leadership within the Body of Christ.

Specifically, what is the vision, mission, and core assignment God has given you through PECOBIM?
My ministry is City of David Ministry International. Our vision is to raise people of praise;people who will continue to praise God in every circumstance, regardless of life’s challenges. The core assignment of PECOBIM is to raise godly bishops and archbishops who will promote unity, discipline, and order within the bishopric and strengthen Christian leadership.

Your recent prophetic declaration has generated widespread attention. Can you explain how God revealed to you that President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a second term in 2027?
I received this revelation during a night vision. God revealed to me that He has given President Bola Ahmed Tinubu another opportunity to serve a second term as President of Nigeria. Although many people have rejected him, God told me that He is allowing him to prepare the way for the next person who will eventually succeed him.

You said that “though it may be tough, it is God’s will for Tinubu to be there again.” What challenges did God reveal to you, and how do you see those challenges unfolding?
It will be challenging because of the hardship Nigerians experienced during the early part of his administration. Many people have already made up their minds not to support him because of those experiences. Nevertheless, what God showed me is that despite the opposition, His purpose will prevail.

Many people are often skeptical about political prophecies because of past unfulfilled predictions. What gives you the confidence to make this declaration publicly?
Ordinarily, I do not involve myself in political matters or make political prophecies. However, I am confident because this is what God specifically revealed to me. I believe God is doing this for a purpose that will become clear to everyone in due time.

You also stated that Christians must be fully involved in politics. Why do you believe this is a divine mandate, and what role should the Church play in shaping Nigeria’s political future?
Yes, Christians should not merely be involved in politics; they must be fully involved. There is a popular saying: “How can you complain about how they shared it when you were not there?” If Christians are absent when important decisions are made, who will speak for biblical values and righteousness? It is time for Christians to actively participate in governance and help shape the future of our nation.

How does politics fit into your divine calling and ministerial assignment? Why have you chosen to speak openly on national leadership and governance?
The Bible provides many examples. Daniel, Joseph, and several other godly leaders were actively involved in the governance of their nations without compromising their faith. Today, many Christians only complain about bad governance, and some pastors criticize political leaders from the pulpit. While speaking out has its place, lasting change comes when godly people are part of the decision-making process.

What practical steps would you recommend for Christians who desire to participate in politics without compromising their faith, integrity, and biblical values?
The first question every Christian should ask is, “Am I faithful where I am today?” Integrity begins in the workplace and in everyday life. Anyone who is not faithful in little things cannot be trusted with public office. Christians who want to enter politics must fear God, maintain integrity, and begin from the grassroots. Rather than creating exclusively Christian political parties, believers should join existing political parties, contribute positively, and trust God to elevate them to positions of influence.

Beyond the 2027 elections, what is God’s message to Nigeria concerning national unity, economic recovery, security, and the future of the Church?
Beyond 2027, I believe Nigeria will become a safer and more prosperous nation. People from different parts of the world will desire to come here to invest and do business because the economy will improve and peace will prevail across the land.

Finally, what words of encouragement and spiritual counsel would you like to leave with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, political leaders, the Church, and Nigerians as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections?
My message is simple: God must come first in everything we do. If our leaders, the Church, and every Nigerian put God first, He will direct our paths, bless our efforts, and grant peace, progress, and stability to our beloved nation. May God continue to guide Nigeria and give us leaders who fear Him
