Faith Communities in Nigeria Urged to Embrace Faith-Based Social Entrepreneurship for Self-Reliance and Poverty Reduction
Lagos, Nigeria – Faith communities across Nigeria have been urged to intentionally embrace faith-based social entrepreneurship as a strategic pathway to self-reliance, socio-economic development, and poverty reduction, particularly among women and youths within the faith ecosystem.
This call was reinforced during a recent courtesy visit by Her Royal Excellency, Dr. Priscilla Otuya, Chief Executive Officer of Mothers of the Nations Global Communications Limited (The Company of Women), first female President of the United Gospel Churches Association of Nigeria, and Convener of the Annual President’s Forum for Faith-Based Initiatives, to the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Lagos, Mr. Daniel Krull.
The visit formed part of strategic engagements ahead of the forthcoming African Forum for Young and Emerging Female Presidents and CEOs, billed for March 8, 2026, in Lagos, and underscored the growing global recognition of faith-driven social enterprises as credible vehicles for development, job creation, and community transformation.
Speaking on the vision behind the engagement, Her Royal Excellency emphasized the urgent need for faith communities to move beyond charity and dependency into structured, sustainable, impact-driven enterprise, rooted in faith values but operated with professional governance and accountability.
According to her, “Faith-based initiatives are not the same as religious institutions. When faith inspires enterprise, innovation, and service, it becomes a powerful force for lifting families out of poverty, empowering women and youths, and strengthening communities.”
The forthcoming African Forum for Young and Emerging Female Presidents and CEOs will serve as a continental platform to identify, equip, and position women and young leaders of faith-driven social enterprises to lead responsibly in governance, business, and social development. The Forum will convene emerging leaders, social entrepreneurs, mentors, policymakers, and development partners from across Africa and the diaspora.
Faith leaders, women’s ministries, youth fellowships, and faith-based organizations are encouraged to see faith-based social entrepreneurship as a divine and practical response to unemployment, economic exclusion, and social instability—especially within faith communities where human potential remains largely untapped.
The March 8, 2026 summit, which aligns with International Women’s Day, is expected to catalyze new conversations, partnerships, and pathways for faith communities to actively contribute to national development while preserving their spiritual mandate.
