Evang. King James Akinsola last March 8, 2023 marked 27 years in ministry. In this interview with Christian Benefits, the global evangelist and crusader fondly called Akeu gba Jesu, shares the story of his conversion from Alfa (Islamic cleric) to a preacher of the gospel, and his testimonies over the years. Excerpts.

Please, can we meet you?

I am Evang. King James Akinsola. To the glory of God, I am pastoring at House of God Bible Church, Ijegun, Lagos, founded by late Rev. John Akinteye who slept in the Lord on March 3, 2015. The Lord spoke to me on July 6, 2015, “A church will be handed over to you, received it. It is from me.” I didn’t know the story of House of God Bible Church and the demise of the former general overseer until God by divine arrangement ordered my path and feet to that church on December 18, 2016 to be their pastor and continue the assignment left behind by the former general overseer. I also run Covenant Word Evangelical Ministries.

Can we have a look at your upbringing, including your rebirth encounter?

I was born October 12, 1973 into an Islamic home. I attended Islamic school (Ile -keu). I was a practicing Alfa for eight years. At the age of 20, I became born again through the blood of Jesus. I heard a voice said,” Who is the Father of God?” And that began the pursuit for God in my soul. In order to serve God and being born into Islamic home, I went to Islamic school until I encountered Jesus on December 21, 1993 at Gospel Faith Mission Int’l (GOFAMINT) Shangisha Assembly. In 1994, not that I heard a preaching, I had the knowing that what I was doing was sinful and I stopped sinning. Around August 1994, I started attending GOFAMINT Ode Aje Assembly in Ibadan. Same August I had three revelations in sequential order. First one I used the name of Jesus to kill a witch in my  dream, likewise the second time. But on the third revelation, the devil and his demons came to me in my dream and I quoted Philippians 2:19 and all of them knelt down in my dream. When I woke up, I vowed that I will serve Jesus Christ all the days of my life. Though in January 1994 I had started attending church, I stopped before I returned in August 1994. Two years later, I got admission into The polytechnic, Ibadan (Eruwa Satellite campus). Subsequently, I became the President of Gospel Students Fellowship on the campus.

Tell us more about the educational aspect of your life?

After completing primary education, I attended Olubadan High School, Ibadan, Oyo state. I furthered my education at The polytechnic, Ibadan (Iree Satellite campus), where I studied and obtained National Diploma in Business Administration. I proceeded to Olabisi Onabanjo University for my degree programme. In addition to my secular education, I attended Evangel Faith Theological Seminary. Last year November 2022, I obtained doctorate in theology.

How did you receive the call of God into ministry, and what is the mandate?

In March 8, 1996 while praying on a Friday night through the next morning, amid the presence of the Most High I heard, “James you are my servant. You are a global evangelist. I have anointed you in heaven with the heavenly anointing. Be preaching I am coming soon.” I asked God, what of plane crash? He said you won’t have any. That was how God called me into the ministry to preach about His coming. I started the ministry in 2000 though I have been running crusades since my polytechnic days in 1997.

Briefly share with us some of your experiences in the ministry these 27 years

We have had several testimonies as well as challenges but God always makes us overcome.  In 2009, God opened international door for me when I travelled to the United States (U.S) to preach the gospel. Same year I had my second trip to the U.S in September and returned in October. I had my third trip in February 2011. In 2012 I went to sell my CD titled, “Eri Igbala mi” (The testimony of my salvation) at CAC Oke Agbara through which I encountered Prophet Elijah Isedowo. He is my father in the Lord. Through him God exposed me to ministering to thousands of souls. He also appointed me the Registrar/Director of Studies of his Bible school.

What is the exact mandate of your calling into the ministry?

I am an evangelist by divine mandate. That is the mandate I received from God on that March 8, 1996. I’m pastoring and lecturing in a Bible school. I am still running my evangelical outreach through Covenant Word Evangelical Ministries.
