This was disclosed a post shared on Facebook by Kayode Ajala.

The new ranks are Special Venerable Superior Evangelist (Sp VSE) and Special Assistant Venerable Superior Evangelist (Sp AVSE). According to the announcement, the ranks were created and approved by the Pastor and Spiritual Head of the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide, His Eminence, Reverend E.M.F. Oshoffa.

The development is expected to bring greater clarity to the classification of church officials and the garments associated with the various ranks.

Under the new arrangement, only members of the clergy who have attained the ranks of Venerable Superior Evangelist (VSE) and Assistant Venerable Superior Evangelist (AVSE) are permitted to wear the light-blue cassock and light-blue surplice (Ileke).

The announcement stressed that members of the non-clergy or laity are no longer permitted to wear these garments, which are now designated strictly for the clergy.

Clergy members who have attained the VSE and AVSE ranks may also wear the white cassock, alongside the appropriate trimmings corresponding to their respective ranks.

The directive further states that non-clergy members, including those who hold the newly created ranks of Special Venerable Superior Evangelist (Sp VSE) and Special Assistant Venerable Superior Evangelist (Sp AVSE), must no longer wear the white cassock.

Instead, specific garments have been prescribed for members of the non-clergy cadre who hold the new ranks.

Those in the Special Assistant Venerable Superior Evangelist (Sp AVSE) rank are to wear a lemon-coloured cassock and lemon-coloured surplice with a grey cross-bar. The prescribed outfit also includes lemon-coloured loins with three blue crosses on the altar.

The new clothing arrangement is intended to provide a visible distinction between the clergy and non-clergy cadres of the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide.

The announcement explained that the creation of the two ranks was principally aimed at drawing a distinct line between the clergy and non-clergy of the church, thereby making the distinction clearer in both rank and official ecclesiastical attire.

The directive takes effect immediately, with members expected to comply with the prescribed dress requirements according to their respective status and ranks.

The development is expected to standardise the use of ecclesiastical garments within the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide and eliminate ambiguity over which categories of members are authorised to wear particular cassocks and surplices.

Story & Photo Credits: Kayode Ajala

The Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Worldwide has announced the creation and approval of two new ranks aimed at clearly distinguishing the clergy from the non-clergy (laity) within the church.
