PREAMBLE: WHY THIS CONVERSATION CANNOT BE DELAYED<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This write-up emerges from the aftermath of the Summit organized by the Nigerian Pastors Project, a gathering convened to confront the present realities facing the Church in Nigeria and beyond. The Summit, powered by the United Gospel Churches Association of Nigeria (UGCAN) and led by Her Excellency Bishop Dr. Priscilla Otuya, First Female President, created a necessary space for truth, discernment, and sober reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What follows is not a reactionary critique.
It is a diagnostic response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The issues confronting the Church are no longer theoretical. They are lived, witnessed, buried, excused, and bleeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This series begins where Scripture begins\u2014with order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
INTRODUCTION: SEEING THROUGH THE WRONG LENS<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We have been unconditionally programmed\u2014by society, culture, trauma narratives, and even religious systems\u2014to interpret spiritual crises through worldly lenses. We analyze spiritual decay using sociology, psychology, gender politics, power dynamics, and trends. While these lenses may offer fragments of insight, they cannot diagnose a spiritual failure at its root.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scripture warns us against this error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Isaiah 30:1 speaks to a people who make plans \u201cbut not of Me,\u201d who form alliances \u201cbut not by My Spirit.\u201d This is a divine indictment of human solutions layered over spiritual disobedience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the Church explains its scandals without returning to God\u2019s original order, it does not heal\u2014it adds sin upon sin, not merely moral sin, but structural rebellion against divine design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This series begins with a truth the Church has avoided:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nIF THE CHURCH IS BLEEDING, THE WOUND IS AT THE HEAD.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
And the head after God is THE MAN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not just any man\u2014but THE ELECT MAN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
WHY BEGIN WITH THE MAN?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Genesis is clear.
God began covenant, authority, and responsibility with the man.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThis is not about superiority.
It is about order, weight, and accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\nAdam was not deceived first\u2014yet Adam fell first in responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Therefore, when the Church experiences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
moral collapse<\/p>\n\n\n\n
sexual scandals<\/p>\n\n\n\n
abuse of power<\/p>\n\n\n\n
silencing of women<\/p>\n\n\n\n
confusion of identity<\/p>\n\n\n\n
spiritual orphanhood<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We must ask the question the Church has resisted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nWHAT KIND OF MEN ARE WE PRODUCING, PROTECTING, PROMOTING, AND EXCUSING?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
THE MOTHER WOUND AND THE MAKING OF A DANGEROUS MAN<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many men in leadership today carry deep, unresolved mother wounds\u2014not as theory, but as lived emotional and spiritual trauma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A boy who was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
not nurtured<\/p>\n\n\n\n
not protected<\/p>\n\n\n\n
not seen<\/p>\n\n\n\n
not honored<\/p>\n\n\n\n
or subtly punished for existing<\/p>\n\n\n\n
does not grow healed simply because he found religion, marriage, or ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unmet needs do not disappear.
They go underground and mature into demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\nSuch a man unconsciously seeks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
a wife who feels maternal<\/p>\n\n\n\n
a congregation that soothes<\/p>\n\n\n\n
a church that nurtures him<\/p>\n\n\n\n
followers who affirm his worth<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But here is the fatal truth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nNO WOMAN, NO WIFE, NO CHURCH CAN HEAL A WOUND THEY DID NOT CREATE.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Scripture reinforces this reality with painful clarity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cTHEY HAVE HEALED THE WOUND OF MY PEOPLE LIGHTLY, SAYING, \u2018PEACE, PEACE,\u2019 WHEN THERE IS NO PEACE.\u201d
\u2014 JEREMIAH 6:14 \/ JEREMIAH 8:11<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\nA wound cannot be healed by pretending it is not there.
It cannot be healed by silence, denial, spiritual language, or forced reconciliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\nWhen the wound resurfaces\u2014and it always does\u2014anger follows. But because the original source of pain feels unsafe, untouchable, or forbidden, the anger displaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The wife becomes the target.
The congregation becomes the target.
The Church becomes collateral damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThis punishment is not always loud. Often it appears as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
emotional punishment<\/p>\n\n\n\n
spiritual manipulation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
control masked as leadership<\/p>\n\n\n\n
silencing disguised as submission<\/p>\n\n\n\n
slow destruction of strong women<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Understanding this explains behavior, but it never excuses it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Church\u2019s great failure has been anointing broken men while insisting their wounds do not exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
THE ABSENT FATHER AND THE SHAPING OF A MALE CHILD<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The absence of a father compounds the mother wound and leaves its own mark. A male child without a functional father figure experiences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Confused identity: He struggles to understand what it means to be a man, often modeling himself on aggression, rebellion, or toxic authority instead of integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unresolved anger: Without a father to guide, affirm, and correct in love, frustration and resentment fester internally and may later be displaced onto spouses, colleagues, or the Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fear of responsibility: The lack of a father to teach accountability and discipline leaves the boy ill-prepared to lead, care, or protect others effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seeking substitutes: He unconsciously seeks surrogate figures, often women, institutions, or peers, to meet needs that only parental guidance could have met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Spiritual vulnerability: He is prone to manipulation by false leaders, untested teachers, or charismatic figures because he never learned discernment in authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When both mother and father wounds coexist, the male child often grows into a man who is both needy and dangerous, carrying unresolved trauma into leadership, marriage, and ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The wife, church, or followers become the unwitting recipients of his displaced pain, as the real source\u2014parental failure\u2014remains unaddressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is why Scripture repeatedly stresses order and mentorship, and why the Church must prioritize healing the head first before expecting restoration in the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SCANDALS ARE NOT RANDOM \u2014 THEY ARE PREDICTABLE<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Church scandals are treated as shocking exceptions. They are not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are predictable outcomes when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
wounded men are elevated without restoration<\/p>\n\n\n\n
authority is given without accountability<\/p>\n\n\n\n
charisma replaces character<\/p>\n\n\n\n
gifting outruns maturity<\/p>\n\n\n\n
trauma is covered with \u201cpeace\u201d language instead of healed<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jeremiah warned us:
Superficial healing invites deeper destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\nTHE ENDANGERED SPECIES OF MEN<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The result is the near extinction of a rare breed of men\u2014men who are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
emotionally integrated<\/p>\n\n\n\n
spiritually fathered<\/p>\n\n\n\n
accountable<\/p>\n\n\n\n
not threatened by women<\/p>\n\n\n\n
capable of love without consuming<\/p>\n\n\n\n
capable of leadership without domination<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These men exist\u2014but they are rare because the system does not reward them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
THE ELECT MAN: GOD\u2019S ORIGINAL INTENTION<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The elect man is not flawless.
He is processed.<\/p>\n\n\n\nHe has:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
faced his wounds instead of exporting them<\/p>\n\n\n\n
taken responsibility instead of hiding behind calling<\/p>\n\n\n\n
allowed God to father him where humans failed<\/p>\n\n\n\n
learned to feel without becoming dangerous<\/p>\n\n\n\n
learned to lead without bleeding on others<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He does not need a wife to heal him.
He does not need a church to validate him.
He does not punish love.
He does not fear strong women.<\/p>\n\n\n\nUntil the Church begins to form this kind of man, reforms, apologies, and policies will remain cosmetic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
GOD\u2019S DISCERNMENT: VICTIMS, AGENTS, AND THE SEARCH AND RESCUE MANDATE<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the Church\u2019s most dangerous errors in times of scandal is moral flattening\u2014treating everyone involved as equally guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God does not do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He distinguishes clearly between:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the wounded and the wicked<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the trapped and the predator<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the silenced and the destroyer<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nGOD KNOWS THE VICTIMS FROM THE AGENTS OF DESTRUCTION.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
He is not confused by titles, charisma, gifting, or reputation.
He sees roots, motives, and assignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\nA GOD ON A SEARCH AND RESCUE MISSION<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this hour, God is not only judging systems\u2014He is conducting search and rescue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He knows those who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
need help and cannot help themselves<\/p>\n\n\n\n
are bound by fear, shame, or spiritual intimidation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
cry secretly behind the scenes<\/p>\n\n\n\n
smile publicly while bleeding privately<\/p>\n\n\n\n
live under the weight of fear and unspoken shame<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These are not weak believers.
They are often faithful sheep trapped under distorted authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\nTo them, God is reaching\u2014with unconditional love, clarity, protection, and deliverance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Isaiah 61 is not poetry.
It is mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\nGod rescues those who cannot rescue themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
THE EXPOSURE OF THOSE SENT TO KILL AND DESTROY<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scripture is equally clear:
Some are not merely wounded\u2014they are assigned.<\/p>\n\n\n\nJesus said plainly:
Some come to steal, kill, and destroy.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThese are not accidental abusers. They are men who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
weaponize Scripture<\/p>\n\n\n\n
exploit vulnerability<\/p>\n\n\n\n
use authority as camouflage<\/p>\n\n\n\n
feed on admiration<\/p>\n\n\n\n
destroy sheep to preserve image<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this is unavoidable:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nGOD WILL EXPOSE THEM.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Not because of activism.
Not because of media.
But because HE IS JEALOUS FOR HIS FLOCK.<\/p>\n\n\n\nExposure is not cruelty.
It is containment.<\/p>\n\n\n\nWhat refuses repentance eventually meets revelation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
WHY THIS DISTINCTION MATTERS<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This distinction matters because:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
victims must not be shamed into silence<\/p>\n\n\n\n
wounded people must not be treated as perpetrators<\/p>\n\n\n\n
predators must not be protected by grace language<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God does not confuse mercy with tolerance of destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CONCLUSION: A RETURN TO GOD\u2019S BLUEPRINT<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Isaiah 30 is not only a rebuke\u2014it is an invitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An invitation to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
stop outsourcing discernment to culture<\/p>\n\n\n\n
stop calling untreated wounds \u201cpeace\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
stop explaining spiritual collapse with secular language alone<\/p>\n\n\n\n
stop protecting systems that destroy souls<\/p>\n\n\n\n
return to God\u2019s original order, beginning with the head<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This series begins here\u2014with THE MAN\u2014because until the head is healed, the body will continue to bleed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
restoring order<\/p>\n\n\n\n
rescuing the trapped<\/p>\n\n\n\n
exposing the counterfeit<\/p>\n\n\n\n
reclaiming His Church<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The shaking we are witnessing is not collapse\u2014it is surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is not the end of the Church.
It is the end of what never had God\u2019s permission to begin with.<\/p>\n\n\n\nFINAL WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To all victims and endangered men:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nMay you find the strength to pull through, bearing in mind that nothing can separate you from the love of the Father in Heaven.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Even when the world fails, when leaders fail, when systems fail, and when wounds seem insurmountable\u2014God\u2019s love is your anchor, your protection, and your restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Take courage. Stand firm. Your healing, identity, and destiny are secure in Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
