In this interview with Christian Benefits, Prince Mike Adewoye, Chairman/CEO of Racy & Sturdy Schools, speaks on the school’s Christian foundation, commitment to academic excellence, character formation, technological innovation, leadership development and plans to provide future-ready education for a new generation of Nigerians.
Kindly introduce your school and share the vision and mission behind its establishment.
Racy & Sturdy Schools is a Christian-oriented educational institution comprising Nursery, Primary and College sections, with over three decades of commitment to quality education and character formation.
The school was established with the conviction that education should go beyond academic qualifications. Our vision is “To raise future-ready leaders through knowledge, character, skills and innovation.” Our mission is to provide inclusive, technology-driven and learner-centred education that develops children intellectually, morally, spiritually and socially.
We believe every child is uniquely gifted and should be given the right environment to discover, develop and deploy those gifts for the benefit of humanity and the glory of God.
What distinguishes your school from other secondary schools in terms of academic excellence, Christian values and character development?
At Racy & Sturdy Schools, we deliberately combine academic excellence with character and Christian values. We do not want to produce students who are merely intelligent; we want to produce young people who are disciplined, responsible, compassionate, innovative and guided by sound moral principles.
Our approach is holistic. We pay attention to academic performance, discipline, leadership, communication, creativity, practical skills and each child’s ability to work effectively with others.
We also believe that true success is not measured only by examination results, but by the kind of person the student becomes.
How does your school integrate biblical principles and Christian ethics into its academic and extracurricular programmes?
Christian principles are woven into the life of the school. Through Bible teaching, prayers, assemblies, counselling, mentorship and daily interactions, students are encouraged to understand and practise values such as honesty, respect, integrity, diligence, forgiveness, compassion, self-control and service.
We encourage students not merely to know Christian principles, but to demonstrate them in their relationships with their colleagues, teachers, parents and the wider society.
Our extracurricular programmes also provide opportunities for students to develop teamwork, leadership, creativity, responsibility and a spirit of service.
What are some of your school’s major achievements and milestones since its inception?
One of our greatest achievements is our ability to remain relevant and impactful for more than 30 years.
Over the years, we have successfully nurtured generations of students and watched many of our former students progress into different professions and areas of responsibility.
We are also proud of our consistent commitment to academic development, our outstanding WAEC and BECE performances, our significant infrastructural improvements and our continued investment in modern educational practices.
Another important milestone is our move towards international exposure and certification, including our affiliation with the London Career Institute of Learning and our relationship with educational institutions beyond Nigeria.
We are constantly reviewing our methods because we believe a school must evolve with the needs of its students and the changing demands of society.
What measures have you put in place to ensure academic excellence while nurturing students spiritually, morally and socially?
We have adopted a holistic assessment and development approach. Beyond examinations, we pay attention to attendance, affective development, psychometric development, continuous assessment, as well as theory and objective performance.
Our teachers are encouraged to identify individual strengths and weaknesses so that appropriate support can be provided.
We also place emphasis on mentorship, reading and writing development, discipline, counselling, Christian instruction, extracurricular activities and leadership training.
Our objective is to ensure that a child who passes through Racy & Sturdy Schools is prepared not only for the next examination, but for life.
How does your school prepare students to become responsible leaders and positive contributors to society?
Leadership begins with responsibility. We give students opportunities to take responsibility, make decisions, work in teams and understand the consequences of their actions.
We encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, creativity, innovation and service to others.
Our future-ready education philosophy is built around preparing students for a world where knowledge alone will not be enough. They need character, digital competence, collaboration, adaptability and the confidence to use their abilities to solve problems.
We want our students to become leaders who will not only ask, “What can I gain?” but also, “What can I contribute?”
In your opinion, what unique role do Christian-based schools play in the growth and development of Nigeria’s education sector?
Christian-based schools have an important role to play in rebuilding the moral foundation of education.
Nigeria needs young people who are academically competent but also possess integrity, respect for human dignity, discipline, responsibility and a strong sense of service.
Christian schools can contribute by demonstrating that academic excellence and character development should not be separated.
We must, however, ensure that faith-based education remains academically rigorous, technologically relevant and responsive to the changing needs of society. Christian education should prepare students to compete globally while remaining firmly grounded in sound Christian values.
How does your school partner with parents to ensure the holistic development of every child?
We see parents as important partners in education, not spectators.
We maintain communication with parents through meetings, progress reports, information channels and other appropriate platforms. We also encourage parents to understand their children’s strengths, weaknesses and developmental needs.
A child can only receive consistent guidance when the school and home are working together. Therefore, we encourage parents to reinforce at home the values, discipline, study habits and positive behaviours taught in school.
Our responsibility is not only to teach the child, but also to work with the family to help the child succeed.
What learning facilities, programmes or innovations make your school an ideal choice for parents seeking quality Christian education?
We are continuously upgrading our learning environment and facilities to meet modern educational demands.
Our plans include stronger digital learning, technology integration and a “One Child, One Laptop” initiative as part of our smart-school direction.
We also focus on mentorship, reading and writing, career development, practical learning, extracurricular activities and continuous assessment.
Our 2026/2027 educational framework is designed around knowledge, character, skills and innovation, because we believe these are essential components of future-ready education.

What message would you like to share with Christian parents who are considering a faith-based school for their children?
My message to Christian parents is simple: do not choose a school for your child based on academics alone.
Ask yourself what kind of person you want your child to become.
Your child needs knowledge, but also character. Your child needs skills, but also wisdom. Your child needs confidence, but also humility. Your child needs technological competence, but also moral direction.
Parents should therefore look for a school where academic excellence, discipline, Christian values, innovation and personal development are deliberately combined.

Our vision is to build Racy & Sturdy Schools into an increasingly modern, technology-driven and internationally relevant educational institution while preserving the Christian values upon which the school was founded.
We are investing in infrastructure, digital education, teacher development, innovative assessment, international exposure and programmes that will prepare our students for the demands of the 21st century.
We also want to strengthen our mentorship and leadership programmes and expand opportunities for students to discover their talents and develop practical skills.
Ultimately, our dream is to raise a generation of future-ready leaders who possess knowledge, character, skills, innovation and a strong sense of responsibility to God and society.
