PREAMBLE: WHY THIS CONVERSATION CANNOT BE DELAYED
This write-up emerges from the aftermath of the Summit organized by the Nigerian Pastors Project, a gathering convened to confront the present realities facing the Church in Nigeria and beyond. The Summit, powered by the United Gospel Churches Association of Nigeria (UGCAN) and led by Her Excellency Bishop Dr. Priscilla Otuya, First Female President, created a necessary space for truth, discernment, and sober reflection.
What follows is not a reactionary critique.
It is a diagnostic response.
The issues confronting the Church are no longer theoretical. They are lived, witnessed, buried, excused, and bleeding.
This series begins where Scripture begins—with order.
INTRODUCTION: SEEING THROUGH THE WRONG LENS
We have been unconditionally programmed—by society, culture, trauma narratives, and even religious systems—to interpret spiritual crises through worldly lenses. We analyze spiritual decay using sociology, psychology, gender politics, power dynamics, and trends. While these lenses may offer fragments of insight, they cannot diagnose a spiritual failure at its root.
Scripture warns us against this error.
Isaiah 30:1 speaks to a people who make plans “but not of Me,” who form alliances “but not by My Spirit.” This is a divine indictment of human solutions layered over spiritual disobedience.
When the Church explains its scandals without returning to God’s original order, it does not heal—it adds sin upon sin, not merely moral sin, but structural rebellion against divine design.
This series begins with a truth the Church has avoided:
IF THE CHURCH IS BLEEDING, THE WOUND IS AT THE HEAD.
And the head after God is THE MAN.
Not just any man—but THE ELECT MAN.
WHY BEGIN WITH THE MAN?
Genesis is clear.
God began covenant, authority, and responsibility with the man.
This is not about superiority.
It is about order, weight, and accountability.
Adam was not deceived first—yet Adam fell first in responsibility.
Therefore, when the Church experiences:
moral collapse
sexual scandals
abuse of power
silencing of women
confusion of identity
spiritual orphanhood
We must ask the question the Church has resisted:
WHAT KIND OF MEN ARE WE PRODUCING, PROTECTING, PROMOTING, AND EXCUSING?
THE MOTHER WOUND AND THE MAKING OF A DANGEROUS MAN
Many men in leadership today carry deep, unresolved mother wounds—not as theory, but as lived emotional and spiritual trauma.
A boy who was:
not nurtured
not protected
not seen
not honored
or subtly punished for existing
does not grow healed simply because he found religion, marriage, or ministry.
Unmet needs do not disappear.
They go underground and mature into demand.
Such a man unconsciously seeks:
a wife who feels maternal
a congregation that soothes
a church that nurtures him
followers who affirm his worth
But here is the fatal truth:
NO WOMAN, NO WIFE, NO CHURCH CAN HEAL A WOUND THEY DID NOT CREATE.
Scripture reinforces this reality with painful clarity:
“THEY HAVE HEALED THE WOUND OF MY PEOPLE LIGHTLY, SAYING, ‘PEACE, PEACE,’ WHEN THERE IS NO PEACE.”
— JEREMIAH 6:14 / JEREMIAH 8:11
A wound cannot be healed by pretending it is not there.
It cannot be healed by silence, denial, spiritual language, or forced reconciliation.
When the wound resurfaces—and it always does—anger follows. But because the original source of pain feels unsafe, untouchable, or forbidden, the anger displaces.
The wife becomes the target.
The congregation becomes the target.
The Church becomes collateral damage.
This punishment is not always loud. Often it appears as:
emotional punishment
spiritual manipulation
control masked as leadership
silencing disguised as submission
slow destruction of strong women
Understanding this explains behavior, but it never excuses it.
The Church’s great failure has been anointing broken men while insisting their wounds do not exist.
THE ABSENT FATHER AND THE SHAPING OF A MALE CHILD
The absence of a father compounds the mother wound and leaves its own mark. A male child without a functional father figure experiences:
Confused identity: He struggles to understand what it means to be a man, often modeling himself on aggression, rebellion, or toxic authority instead of integrity.
Unresolved anger: Without a father to guide, affirm, and correct in love, frustration and resentment fester internally and may later be displaced onto spouses, colleagues, or the Church.
Fear of responsibility: The lack of a father to teach accountability and discipline leaves the boy ill-prepared to lead, care, or protect others effectively.
Seeking substitutes: He unconsciously seeks surrogate figures, often women, institutions, or peers, to meet needs that only parental guidance could have met.
Spiritual vulnerability: He is prone to manipulation by false leaders, untested teachers, or charismatic figures because he never learned discernment in authority.
When both mother and father wounds coexist, the male child often grows into a man who is both needy and dangerous, carrying unresolved trauma into leadership, marriage, and ministry.
The wife, church, or followers become the unwitting recipients of his displaced pain, as the real source—parental failure—remains unaddressed.
This is why Scripture repeatedly stresses order and mentorship, and why the Church must prioritize healing the head first before expecting restoration in the body.
SCANDALS ARE NOT RANDOM — THEY ARE PREDICTABLE
Church scandals are treated as shocking exceptions. They are not.
They are predictable outcomes when:
wounded men are elevated without restoration
authority is given without accountability
charisma replaces character
gifting outruns maturity
trauma is covered with “peace” language instead of healed
Jeremiah warned us:
Superficial healing invites deeper destruction.
THE ENDANGERED SPECIES OF MEN
The result is the near extinction of a rare breed of men—men who are:
emotionally integrated
spiritually fathered
accountable
not threatened by women
capable of love without consuming
capable of leadership without domination
These men exist—but they are rare because the system does not reward them.
THE ELECT MAN: GOD’S ORIGINAL INTENTION
The elect man is not flawless.
He is processed.
He has:
faced his wounds instead of exporting them
taken responsibility instead of hiding behind calling
allowed God to father him where humans failed
learned to feel without becoming dangerous
learned to lead without bleeding on others
He does not need a wife to heal him.
He does not need a church to validate him.
He does not punish love.
He does not fear strong women.
Until the Church begins to form this kind of man, reforms, apologies, and policies will remain cosmetic.
GOD’S DISCERNMENT: VICTIMS, AGENTS, AND THE SEARCH AND RESCUE MANDATE
One of the Church’s most dangerous errors in times of scandal is moral flattening—treating everyone involved as equally guilty.
God does not do this.
He distinguishes clearly between:
the wounded and the wicked
the trapped and the predator
the silenced and the destroyer
GOD KNOWS THE VICTIMS FROM THE AGENTS OF DESTRUCTION.
He is not confused by titles, charisma, gifting, or reputation.
He sees roots, motives, and assignments.
A GOD ON A SEARCH AND RESCUE MISSION
In this hour, God is not only judging systems—He is conducting search and rescue.
He knows those who:
need help and cannot help themselves
are bound by fear, shame, or spiritual intimidation
cry secretly behind the scenes
smile publicly while bleeding privately
live under the weight of fear and unspoken shame
These are not weak believers.
They are often faithful sheep trapped under distorted authority.
To them, God is reaching—with unconditional love, clarity, protection, and deliverance.
Isaiah 61 is not poetry.
It is mission.
God rescues those who cannot rescue themselves.
THE EXPOSURE OF THOSE SENT TO KILL AND DESTROY
Scripture is equally clear:
Some are not merely wounded—they are assigned.
Jesus said plainly:
Some come to steal, kill, and destroy.
These are not accidental abusers. They are men who:
weaponize Scripture
exploit vulnerability
use authority as camouflage
feed on admiration
destroy sheep to preserve image
And this is unavoidable:
GOD WILL EXPOSE THEM.
Not because of activism.
Not because of media.
But because HE IS JEALOUS FOR HIS FLOCK.
Exposure is not cruelty.
It is containment.
What refuses repentance eventually meets revelation.
WHY THIS DISTINCTION MATTERS
This distinction matters because:
victims must not be shamed into silence
wounded people must not be treated as perpetrators
predators must not be protected by grace language
God does not confuse mercy with tolerance of destruction.
CONCLUSION: A RETURN TO GOD’S BLUEPRINT
Isaiah 30 is not only a rebuke—it is an invitation.
An invitation to:
stop outsourcing discernment to culture
stop calling untreated wounds “peace”
stop explaining spiritual collapse with secular language alone
stop protecting systems that destroy souls
return to God’s original order, beginning with the head
This series begins here—with THE MAN—because until the head is healed, the body will continue to bleed.
God is:
restoring order
rescuing the trapped
exposing the counterfeit
reclaiming His Church
The shaking we are witnessing is not collapse—it is surgery.
This is not the end of the Church.
It is the end of what never had God’s permission to begin with.
FINAL WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT
To all victims and endangered men:
May you find the strength to pull through, bearing in mind that nothing can separate you from the love of the Father in Heaven.
Even when the world fails, when leaders fail, when systems fail, and when wounds seem insurmountable—God’s love is your anchor, your protection, and your restoration.
Take courage. Stand firm. Your healing, identity, and destiny are secure in Him.
