The Kingdom of the Lord is at Hand – Andrew Morgridge

The kingdom of the Lord is at hand! This is the time to prepare. Preparation is a big study itself; but we find an apt summary in Titus 2:11-14. “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,” teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world: Looking for that blessed hop, and the glorious appearing of all the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people zealous of good works.

The key points here is living soberly, righteously, and godly as we live (live in anticipation) for the rapture. (John 3:1-3).

This was the lifestyle of the early apostles, who died and died in anticipating of making the rapture plane. These ones were strangers and pilgrims on earth. Each believer took his cross daily to follow the Lord; even as he had commanded them.

If any man will come after me, let him deny himself; and take up his cross, and follow me. for whosoever will save his life shall lose it, and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.. For what is a man profited; if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? For the son of man shall come in the glory of his father with the angels and then he shall reward everyman according to his works,” (Mathew 15:24-27).

What does it mean to take up one’s cross daily and follow the Lord? Paul explained this when he beseeched the Ephesians to walk worthy of the vocation wherein they were called (Ephesians 4:1). This, Paul beseeched them because Christianity is not a way of life; pr a religion, bur one’s very life for a vocation is basically a trade or profession which one has been called into. And to highlight this, Jesus stressed total commitment and devotion to God for those who wanted to follow him.

“And it came to pass, that as they went in the way, a certain man said unto the Lord. Lord, I will follow thee withersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the son of man hath nowhere to lay his head. And he said unto another, follow me. But he said, Lord suffer me first to go and bury my father: Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead; but thou go and preach the kingdom of God. And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee, but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my father’s house. And Jesus said unto him, No man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God,” (Luke 9:57-62).

In that passage we see three sets of believers, each with a mindset that Christians today carry about. The first believer wanted assurance of benefits and comforts and He told him in coded words that Christianity is a journey and you under take it as pilgrim (See Psalm 84:4 NIV, New American Standard Version).

Wealth and comfort when they control you and preoccupy your mind will take you off the course on the road to Zion (Heaven. That was what Jesus told the man who wanted to go bury his father first. While there is nothing wrong with going to bury one’s father; choosing to do so ahead of following Christ, speaks of a heart that loves money ahead of God because in the Bible times, the first born who buries his father was entitled to a double portion of the man’s inheritance. These points were highlighted by Jesus in another scripture.

A certain man made a great supper; and bade many. And set his servants at supper time to say to them that were bidded, come for all things are now ready. And they all with one consent, began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I bought a piece of ground, and I must need to go see it; pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought the five yokes of oxen, and I want o prove them; I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife and therefore I cannot come. Another said I have married a wife and therefore I cannot come. So that servant came, and showed his Lord these things. Then, the master of the house being angry said to the servant, Go out quickly into the streets, and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed and the halt, and the blind. And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hath commanded, and yet there is room. And the Lord said unto the servant; Go out into the highways and hedges an compel them to come in; that my house may be filled; for I say unto you that none of those men which were bidded shall taste of my supper. If any man come to me and hate not his father and mother; and wife and children and brethren, and sister; yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

“For which of you intending to build a tower sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he has sufficient to finish it? Lest haptly after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, and all that behold it began to mock him, saying, this man began to build, and was not able to finish it. Or what king going to make war against another king sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand. Or else where the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace, So, likewise, whoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:16:33).

Thus, the calling of God into Christianity is an everyday affair, and must permeate into our very members to control and to dictate our existence. That is the man that will use the understanding of prophecies and prophecies fulfilling tp escape the coming judgment upon the world.
