“My Dad Is Always Involved in Our Lives and Gives Us Confidence to Make Our Own Decisions.” — Daughter, Oluwatomisin

For Oluwatomisin Oviebo, her father, Engr. Akintunde Oviebo, has been more than a provider and parent. He has been a steady presence in the lives of his children, encouraging them to make their own decisions while providing the support and confidence they need to pursue their dreams. His strong faith in God has also shaped the values he has passed on to his family.

In this special interview with Christian Benefits Magazine on the occasion of her father’s recent 70th birthday celebration, Oluwatomisin reflects on her father’s influence, the values he instilled in his children, his sacrifices for the family, and the legacy of faith, love and discipline he is building as he celebrates this significant milestone.

How would you like to be introduced to our readers?

My name is Oluwatomisin Oviebo. I studied Economics at Chrisland University, and I’m currently an entrepreneur. I’m my dad’s only daughter and his second and last child.

What is your present career or vocation?

I’m currently an entrepreneur. I founded and run Cookout, an online food business, and I’m also involved in managing our family farm, Nikahood Nigeria Limited. Both are areas I’m very passionate about.

How would you explain your dad’s contribution to your career path?

My dad has always supported me in whatever career path I choose. Whether it was studying Economics, starting Cookout or getting involved in the family farm, he has always encouraged me to pursue what I’m passionate about. He has always believed in me and given me the confidence to make my own decisions.

What childhood memories of your dad remain most special?

I think some of my fondest memories are the simple family moments. My dad was always very involved in our lives, and I remember feeling very cared for and supported growing up. Looking back now, I appreciate those moments even more.

What values did your dad instil in you growing up?

He taught us to work hard, be disciplined, treat people with respect and take responsibility for our actions. He also taught us to have strong faith in God and to trust Him, especially when things don’t go according to plan.

How has your dad influenced your character and life choices?

My dad has taught me to be independent, resilient and intentional about the choices I make. Watching the way he approaches life has taught me to work hard and stay committed to whatever I set my mind to. His faith has also taught me to trust God through every season.

What sacrifices has your dad made for your family?

My dad has sacrificed a lot over the years to make sure his family was well taken care of and had good opportunities. He has worked hard and made many decisions with the well-being of the family in mind. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to understand and appreciate those sacrifices much more.

What quality of your dad do you admire most?

I admire his strength of character. He is very determined, disciplined and dependable, but at the same time, he has a strong sense of compassion. I also admire the way his faith influences the way he lives and treats people.

What makes you particularly proud of your dad at 70?

I’m proud of the life he has built, the family he has raised and the impact he has had on the people around him. At 70, I think it’s beautiful to see the results of his years of hard work, sacrifice and faith. I’m especially proud of the legacy he has created for our family.

Lastly, how would you describe your dad as a father, husband and Christian?

As a father, my dad is loving, disciplined and protective. As a husband, he is committed to his family, and as a Christian, his relationship with God is a very important part of who he is. He has always encouraged us to trust God, live right and do our best in whatever we pursue. I’m very grateful to God for his life and for the foundation he has given our family, and I pray that he enjoys many more beautiful and fulfilling years.
